Elon Musk, Chief Executive Officer of Tesla and SpaceX, has publicly acknowledged JinkoSolar latest world record in solar cell efficiency, highlighting growing global attention on advances in high performance photovoltaic technology. Responding to a social media post on the breakthrough, Musk commented simply “True”, signalling recognition of China continued leadership in solar innovation.

Earlier this month JinkoSolar announced that a solar cell developed on its Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact platform had achieved a certified conversion efficiency of 27.79 percent. The result was independently verified by the Institute for Solar Energy Research in Hamelin in Germany. This milestone represents the thirty second world record set by JinkoSolar across solar cell efficiency and module output power.

Musk, whose business interests span electric vehicles, energy storage and advanced computing, is closely watching developments in energy technologies as electricity demand rises, particularly from data centres in the United States. The growing use of solar power across emerging applications has placed high efficiency photovoltaics at the centre of long term energy planning.
